Austrian Audio MiCreator Studio is a USB microphone for a wide range of applications. Thanks to the cardioid characteristic, the microphone is perfect for recording vocals and instrumental compositions and effectively suppresses sound entering the back of the microphone. Additionally, it is designed for placement on a table or stand, with a 3/8" thread on the bottom of the microphone that can be increased to 5/8" using the included thread adapter if needed.
The MiCreator Studio microphone always stands securely on a flat surface due to the rubber feet on the bottom. However, it can also be used as a handheld microphone, as it features a vibration-isolating capsule to ensure optimal isolation from structural noise. Regardless of where the microphone is placed, it's always best to aim the swivel head at the source being recorded. To combat unwanted effects, MiCreator Studio includes internal pop protection, which can be replaced with optional pop protection (such as the Austrian Audio OCP8) if needed.
Controls
The microphone automatically turns on when connected via the USB-C port, eliminating the need for a power switch. During startup, the red LED briefly flashes, then the LEDs switch to green for volume indication. The main headphone output is located on the back of MiCreator Studio and is controlled by the volume/monitor knob on the front panel. Adjusting the volume requires shifting the LED bar to green, which is possible by pressing the knob. Pressing the knob again changes the LED bar to red, allowing for monitoring adjustments.
There is a microphone gain switch with three settings on the front panel. When set to "mute," the microphone input is disabled, indicated by a red mark on the switch. Setting it to "low" increases the microphone signal to 0 dB, while "high" boosts it to 20 dB. Additional input signal gain up to 15 dB is possible through the USB-C connection.
Connections
In addition to the main headphone output "out," there is another "in/out" jack on the back of the device, which can be used for connecting a second pair of headphones or, for example, the MiCreator Satellite. Control of this jack is also done via the volume/monitor knob on the front panel. To adjust the input gain of the "in/out" jack, a "high/low" switch is located above it, with the "high" and "low" values corresponding to the switch settings on the front panel.
When an instrument is connected using an instrumental cable or a second pair of headphones, it is recommended to select "low" on the switch. With this setting, the input impedance is set to the maximum value to minimize signal distortion from the connected device. Stereo recording is possible with MiCreator Studio by connecting a second microphone on the back panel.
MiCreator Satellite
The MiCreator Satellite serves as an additional microphone for the MiCreator Studio USB-C microphone (sold separately). When connected to the studio microphone MiCreator using the included 3.5mm TRS cable, it allows content creators to set up two microphones suitable for podcasting or live streaming with two people, whether on a Mac/Windows laptop or an Android/iOS mobile device - all thanks to one USB-C cable.
