The Austrian Audio CC8 is a small diaphragm condenser instrumental microphone. Ideal for sources such as acoustic instruments in jazz ensembles, orchestras, acoustic guitars, pianos, etc. The microphone features an OCC7 condenser capsule, inspired by the CK1, with a 3-micron gold-sputtered polyethylene terephthalate diaphragm. The OCC7 capsule and transformerless output provide a linear frequency response, handling high sound pressure levels (SPL) up to 156 dB without distortion. The device has two pad levels in addition to 0: -10 dB and -20 dB, allowing for placement near loud sound sources. It also features a switchable high-pass filter at 60 Hz and 120 Hz. The low self-noise of CC8 (16 dB SPL (A)) makes it a great choice for quieter sources. The set includes a stereo bar, windscreens, and stand mounts.
The CC8 captures the fast transient and spatial information needed for accurate recording exceptionally well. The sound is natural and open, without becoming harsh even at maximum volume. The mid and high frequencies sound smooth, without exaggeration. When used with quieter sources, such as string instruments with a soft sound or vocals, the low self-noise of CC8 shines, capturing performance nuances with exceptional detail and clarity. Before leaving the factory, each microphone is measured and adjusted (in the Austrian Audio anechoic chamber) with minimal tolerance for maximum sensitivity ±0.5 dB at 1 kHz. This means that any CC8 can be compatible with any other, regardless of production date.
