The power supply for the portable Class A amplifier could have been a serious issue, but a solution was found: Astell & Kern implemented a three-stage current adjustment in the PA10 based on the impedance of the connected headphones. As a result, the device can last up to 12 hours on a single charge - at 30% volume, with low gain, and using the unbalanced output.
Crossfeed Function
The listener can use the Crossfeed effect, which mixes a portion of the signal from one channel and sends it to the opposite channel with a slight delay. According to Astell & Kern, this recreates the sound of speakers in headphones.
The AK PA10 is equipped with a proprietary analog volume control that smoothly reproduces sounds. It also has a separate power chip for each audio block. This allows it to conveniently provide the optimal power required for each audio system. This design eliminates the interfering pulsating noise (pulsating noise that occurs when power is turned on) of direct current power, thereby minimizing noise that can be amplified along with the sound.
In addition to this, patented shield technology is applied in such a way that external noise and electromagnetic waves do not affect the audio block, and a construction that physically separates unbalanced and balanced circuits ensures high sound quality and low noise levels.
Unique Design
The external design reflects the individuality of Astell&Kern and is developed using a concept that showcases powerful performance and excellent ergonomic grip in the hand. The processed octagonal aluminum main body shaped like a pillar is adorned with a diagonally inclined surface.
The distinctive side reflects Astell&Kern's signature style and prevents the device from slipping. The uni-body construction, completing the fit with a rubber coating, is attached to the player, ensuring a seamless design. The finely crafted volume control wheel is integrated into the device's housing, with separate control and indication components. This prevents unintended pressing of the volume control wheel by the user and allows for visual monitoring of the current output signal level while adjusting the volume.
A rubber pad on the front panel keeps the audio player and AK PA10 together without any movement or vibration when they are connected with the included rubber bands. Additionally, Astell&Kern has added a 3D textured pattern, inspired by the Astell&Kern logo, to add a touch of luxury.
The side switches act as indicators, allowing users to intuitively determine the settings of each function, complementing the overall reliable and distinctive industrial design of the PA10.
