Akai Professional MPK Mini IV is the latest, fourth version of the cult compact MIDI controller, reimagined for modern music creators. The device combines portability with professional features, including an updated keyboard, legendary MPC pads with RGB backlighting, and new control elements, providing a versatile tool for both beginners and experienced producers.
Updated design and control
The MPK Mini IV has received a significant design and ergonomics update. The controller is now equipped with real, mechanical Pitch and Modulation wheels instead of the joystick in previous generations, providing more expressive and precise control. A dedicated transport panel has also been added with buttons to control playback, recording, and other functions in digital audio workstations (DAWs), significantly speeding up the workflow.
Keyboard and pads
At the core of the controller is the updated dynamic Gen-3 mini-keyboard with 25 pressure-sensitive keys. It offers improved tactile feedback and more expressive play. Eight velocity and pressure-sensitive pads, inherited from the flagship MPC series, now have full RGB backlighting and two banks, making them ideal for drum programming and sample launching.
Enhanced capabilities and connectivity
The device offers eight assignable rotary knobs for controlling virtual instrument parameters, effects, and mixer. The color display with bidirectional feedback simplifies navigation through functions and presets. The MPK Mini IV easily integrates with major DAWs such as Ableton Live, Logic Pro, and FL Studio, thanks to ready-made templates.
Creative tools like Scale and Chord modes, as well as an arpeggiator with Pattern, Freeze, and Mutate functions, help generate new ideas and simplify performing complex parts.
Modern connectivity includes:
- USB-C port for power and MIDI data transmission, compatible with class-compliant devices (plug-and-play).
- 5-pin MIDI output for connecting external hardware.
- Sustain pedal input (6.3mm TS connector).
Software
The controller comes bundled with an extensive Studio Instrument Collection software package, including over 1000 professional sounds from AIR Music Tech, Akai Pro, and Moog, as well as Ableton Live Lite 12 and trial versions of Melodics and Splice.
Thanks to its durable and compact construction (weighing around 1.05 kg), the Akai MPK Mini IV is perfect for both home studios and on-the-go use.
Package includes:
- MIDI controller
- USB-C cable
- Music production software
- Manual.
