After studying Western composition at the Shanghai Conservatory and moving towards success as a conductor, composer and bassoonist, Mr. Siwei Zou was invited to California State University as a fellow at the Faculty of Music.

In the early years of his life in San Francisco, his acquaintances from Shanghai sent him microphones of a new design for recording. Although he was impressed with the performance of these models, he was unhappy with their execution and design and began to suggest changes. From that moment on, sE Electronics began to take shape as a business.

At the initial stage of the company's development, all sE Electronics microphones were manufactured at the same large manufacturing plants that still produce microphones for dozens of brands known all over the world. However, Siwei felt the need for a higher standard of quality and artistic control over its microphones, and in 2003 the company opened its own production facility in Shanghai.
