Mackie

Mackie is an American brand of professional audio products, founded in Seattle in 1988. It is the primary product line of LOUD Technologies. The company was established by Greg Mackie, a former Boeing employee, who began manufacturing professional sound equipment and guitar amplifiers in his spare time. After founding a small production of TAPCO line mixers, and then AudioControl home audio processors, Mackie founded Mackie Designs, Inc. He focused on developing and producing affordable and versatile compact professional audio mixers under the Mackie brand in his three-bedroom condominium in Edmonds, Washington. The first product from Mackie was the LM-1602 line mixer, priced at $399. By 1996, Mackie had expanded its range, adding experienced designer Cal Perkins to the team and beginning production of power amplifiers, active mixers, and active studio monitors. In 1999, following the acquisition of Mackie Designs by Radio Cine Forniture S.p.A., Mackie introduced the SRM450 active speaker system, and by 2001, speakers accounted for 55% of Mackie's sales.
