One of the main differences of the Sub Utopia EM is the super powerful Electromagnet (EM) in the low frequency driver. Even compared to the perfect Multiferrite magnetic system in the higher series Focal using standard passive magnets, the EM technology provides a two-fold increase in induction, reaching 1.75 Tesla. Focal's patented EM technology can only be found in the low-frequency section of Grand Utopia EM and Stella Utopia EM speakers, and it is used for the first time in a separate subwoofer.
The high induction, exceptional uniformity of the magnetic field throughout the extended range of the sound coil, and the unique properties of the 33 cm (13 inch) W-cone woofer give the Sub Utopia EM unmatched technical and musical characteristics. The deep bass maintains excellent dynamics and density down to the lower limit of audible frequencies (taking into account the listening room's influence). This reproduction of the low register fully matches the higher registers of the main speakers in the series, allowing for achieving a maximally balanced tonal response.
The subwoofer is designed for use with a separately chosen external power amplifier as well as an audio processor for sound tuning. Among the unique features of the Sub Utopia EM is the ability to increase bass capabilities by installing several - up to three - subwoofers into a single column. Two execution options of the model are provided for this purpose. The EM/T (Top) version has a flat top panel of the cabinet and is intended for standalone use or for the upper section of a column with 2 or 3 subwoofers.
The EM/S (Stackable) version differs with a special top panel design for secure and vibration-free attachment of higher sections in the column. By varying the number of subwoofers in the installation, you can achieve sound coherence with main speakers of any model in the series: from the "bookshelf" Diablo Utopia to the higher-end Grand Utopia EM. The choice of the number of subwoofers in the installation is also influenced by the dimensions of the listening room. The characteristics of the Sub Utopia EM, considering the expandability of sections, allow for achieving seamless reproduction of deep bass even in large private "home cinema" spaces.
