At the moment, the Focal Kanta 1 speaker is the only bookshelf speaker in the Kanta range. The model features a 27mm IAL3 tweeter with a rigid and very light beryllium dome. Following the IAL (Infinite Acoustic Loading) technologies, this tweeter includes a small rear chamber that absorbs waves emitted by the back of the dome, eliminates reflections, prevents back pressure, and ultimately reduces resonance frequency and distortion to zero. This tweeter produces a very accurate and detailed sound.
The midrange/woofer section is powered by a 165mm driver with a composite diffuser made of lightweight flax fibers sandwiched between two layers of fiberglass. This "sandwich" guarantees a low weight, excellent rigidity, and great damping. The driver utilizes NIC (Neutral Inductance Circuit) technology to eliminate the negative impact of eddy currents and optimize the magnetic field in which the voice coil operates. TMD technology is used in the speaker surround, incorporating special ring-shaped thickenings so that the entire suspension system acts as a mass damper. This design helps to eliminate parasitic resonances caused by the movement of the driver membrane.
The thirteen-kilogram cabinet of the Focal Kanta 1 is made of special molded plywood layers of softwood and hardwood, reducing vibrations. The front panel is cast from a high-density polymer (HDP), which is stiffer and denser than regular MDF boards, ensuring excellent damping, while the smooth curves of the facade minimize diffraction. The top of the front panel is slightly inclined (Focus Time technology), allowing sound waves from the tweeter and midrange/woofer driver to reach the listening area with minimal time dispersion. The rear-firing bass port is designed with Power Flow technology to eliminate dynamic compression. The upper panel of the speaker has a glass finish, while the midrange/woofer driver is protected by a grille with magnetic fastening.
The bookshelf speaker Focal Kanta 1 can cover rooms up to 25 square meters. The speaker is available in a wide variety of finishes, including gloss lacquer, natural veneer, and even in yellow or blue on the front panel. Optional stands with "feet" supports for spikes are also available. According to the manufacturer, this speaker provides precise, detailed, and musical sound.
