The SRM-400S model has replaced the basic model SRM-353X. The amplifier is equipped with a more rigid chassis and two inputs - one balanced and one unbalanced, which can be selected using a switch on the back panel. The unbalanced line output allows the amplifier to be connected between the source and the existing preamplifier. The outputs for two pairs of headphones can be used for comparing different models of Stax electrostatic headphones or for group listening. The SRM-400S is equipped with the same transistors as the higher model 700S, as well as separate transformers for the high-voltage and low-voltage parts.
In addition to the normal power transformer for the high-voltage circuit, the SRM-400S is equipped with a new power transformer with a winding for the low-voltage circuit. The low-voltage winding allows for increased energy efficiency and achieves further energy savings and better sound quality than conventional headphones such as the SRM-353X.
The SRM-400S is capable of reproducing high-resolution sound, which is unique to its semiconductor circuitry and dynamic playback in the low range. At the same time, the sound balance is better than that of the SRM-353X. The sound in each range, from low to high, is well harmonized. Not only is the SRM-400S suitable for use with the improved Lambda series, but it is also ideal for upgrading from the entry-level SRS-3100. This model covers a wide range from beginners to intermediate levels among the updated range of headphones.
