When engineers from the Japanese company Stax began designing the SR-007MK2 model (also known as SR-007A Omega MKII), their goal was to achieve a deep and powerful sound that was previously unavailable in headphones. To accomplish this, they developed a new and unique electrode construction. This new electrode, visible through the outer casing, has fewer holes than previous Stax systems and is gold-plated along the outer edge. With this increased vibration area, the diaphragm produces rich and powerful sound while maintaining the elegance and delicacy for which Stax is renowned.
Features:
- Open-back electrostatic headphones
- Frequency response: 6 to 41,000 Hz
- Earpads made of genuine lambskin (contacting the ear) and high-quality synthetic material (for the surrounding area)
- Sturdy metal housing
- 2.5 m cable made of monocrystalline (PC-OCC) copper
- Balanced and detailed studio-level sound
- Made in Japan
Stax Japan refers to their electrostatic headphones as "Earspeakers", literally "ear loudspeakers" or "speakers/monitors for the ears". The electrostatic driver in Stax headphones consists of two parallel fixed electrodes, between which is suspended an ultra-light high-polymer film less than 2 micrometers thick. In simpler terms, it is a two-stage driver system. When fluctuating voltage from an audio signal is applied to the electrodes, the diaphragm stretches and moves.
The updated version of the classic SR-007 Omega II model is available in black with a slightly different driver. The sound remains warm and lush, with emphasis on the midrange and bass frequencies, without losing the high frequencies. It has a slightly relaxed, lighter sound signature compared to the detail-oriented SR-009 models. Like other electrostats, it requires a dedicated amplifier.
Hard metal housing:
Just like with regular loudspeaker systems, the durability of the housing is crucial for headphones. To preserve pure and undistorted sound, it is important that nothing vibrates except for the diaphragm. Inside the Stax SR-007A Omega MKII, the sound element is enclosed in a thick insulated polymer shell firmly attached to the main all-metal rigid housing. This eliminates any extraneous vibrations.
Fully adjustable earpads:
Unmatched comfort for maximum music enjoyment with the Stax Omega MKII is provided by earpads that fully adjust to the shape of your head. The design, in which the cups and earpads can rotate independently of each other, allows for a precise fit to the listener's ear shape.
Headphone cable:
The original cable was designed to achieve an even higher level of reproduction. It uses high-purity monocrystalline copper (PC-OCC) as conductors. The exceptionally high sound quality is achieved through a wide bandwidth and low capacitance.
Luxurious and reliable case:
The Stax SR-007MK2 headphones come in a reliable and convenient transport case, similar to professional ATA cases used to protect musical instruments, film, audio, lighting, and other equipment during flights and transportation.
