The KH 310 A three-way monitor, featuring the KH 420 mid-frequency loudspeaker, is the result of incorporating the latest advancements in acoustics, electronics, and mechanics. The goal is to establish a new standard in audio reproduction. By employing custom-designed speakers, developed using computer modeling, a mathematically modeled elliptical waveguide (MMD), flexible control options, analog and digital inputs, and a wide range of mounting accessories, the monitor can fully utilize its features in various acoustic conditions, regardless of the signal source.
The KH 420 is designed to be used as a midfield monitor or as a main monitor in multi-channel systems. It can be utilized for control during mixing, sound reinforcement, and broadcasting in recording studios. It can either be flush-mounted or used freestanding. The tweeter diaphragm is constructed with a durable multi-layer reinforced fabric, ensuring minimal distortion at high frequencies. It is also equipped with protection against unintentional damage. Meanwhile, the midrange speaker boasts a soft fabric diaphragm and a neodymium magnet, which enables precise reproduction of frequencies that are particularly important for speech and vocals. The lightweight dome guarantees excellent transient response, while the high-power magnet reduces harmonic and intermodulation distortion.
In addition, the long-throw woofer, with a composite multi-layer diaphragm and a corrugated surround, is manufactured using the Extremely Linear Force Factor (ELFF) technology. The linear characteristics of the piston mechanism result in very low levels of harmonic distortion, even during high-amplitude diaphragm oscillations. The corrugated surround further reduces radial destructive waves.
The KH 420 also features high-performance optimized phase inverters with anti-resonant air ducts, which minimize compression at high sound pressure levels and eliminate the "organ" effect. The mathematically modeled elliptical waveguide (MMD) ensures accurate reproduction of sounds off-axis. The speaker is highly adaptable to the acoustic characteristics of different rooms and effectively reduces reflections from the mixing console. It serves as an ideal monitor in large multi-channel systems as a front and center speaker. Additionally, it is a suitable choice for standard stereo systems, with or without a subwoofer, as well as for 3D audio systems like Auro 3D and Dolby Atmos.
Main features of the KH 420 include a cabinet made of low-resonance integral molding (LRIM) material, designed using computer modeling, exceptional low-frequency depth (26 Hz) at high sound pressure levels (122.4 dB), and precise distribution of mid and high-frequency sound waves. It can be seamlessly integrated into a stereo system alongside the KH 750 DSP and an iPad® application for room tuning and optimization.
