The comfortable Shangri-La headphones are very light (374 g) and come with advanced technologies. For example, the headphones use what HiFiMAN calls a "nanotechnological" driver, with a diaphragm made of nanomaterial that is only 0.001 mm thick (and no, this number is not a typo). The diaphragm is coated with conducting nanoparticles arranged in a precise grid on its surface. HiFiMAN then developed thin metal stators with micro-channels, made from wire just 50 microns thick, where the stators are held in place by a frame made from a "special metal alloy, specially chosen to ensure sound stability and minimize distortion.
The result of these technical efforts is a driver with an incredibly low moving mass, whose transparency - both in terms of its freely flowing stators and its ultra-thin dust protection covers - is exceptionally high, and, as they say, it provides "lightning-fast response with virtually no distortion." The stated frequency response of the driver ranges from 7 Hz to 120 kHz.
In terms of external design, the Shangri-La headphones are very similar to a lighter, high-end version of the HiFiMAN HE 1000 v2 headphones, which have received critical acclaim, but with a metal body instead of the satin silver finish of the HE 1000 v2 - the Shangri-La has a luxurious black anodized finish. Like the HE 1000 v2, the sides of the headphone cups of the Shangri-La are tastefully covered with veneer from exotic wood species. The touch surfaces (i.e. earpads and adjustable headband) are made of soft, luxurious black leather.
