At the moment, the Focal Kanta #1 speaker represents the only bookshelf speaker in the Kanta line. The model features a 27mm IAL3 tweeter, which has a rigid and very light curved dome with a beryllium coating. In accordance with the IAL (Infinite Acoustic Loading) technologies, this tweeter uses a small rear chamber that absorbs the waves emitted by the back side of the dome, eliminates reflections, prevents back pressure, and ultimately allows the resonance frequency to be lowered and distortion to be minimized to zero. This tweeter sounds very accurate and detailed.
The midrange/woofer section is powered by a 165mm driver with a composite diffuser based on lightweight flax fibers placed between two reinforcing layers of fiberglass. This "sandwich" ensures low weight, superior rigidity, and excellent damping. The driver utilizes NIC (Neutral Inductance Circuit) technology, which eliminates the negative influence of eddy currents and optimizes the magnetic field in which the voice coil operates. The TMD technology is used in the driver's suspension, involving the use of special ring-shaped thickenings, meaning the entire suspension system acts as a mass damper. This allows parasitic resonances occurring during the driver membrane movement to be eliminated.
The thirteen-kilogram enclosure of the Focal Kanta #1 is made of special molded plywood, alternating layers made of softwood and hardwood species of wood, which helps reduce vibrations. The front panel is cast from a special high-density polymer (HDP) that is stiffer and denser than regular MDF panels. This ensures excellent damping, and the smooth curves of the front minimize diffraction. The upper part of the front panel has a slight tilt (Focus Time technology), allowing the sound waves from the tweeter and midrange/woofer driver to reach the listening area with minimal time dispersion. The integrated rear port of the bass reflex enclosure is designed according to the Power Flow technology, which eliminates dynamic compression. The upper panel of the speaker has a glass finish, and the midrange/woofer driver is protected by a grille with magnetic mounting.
The bookshelf speaker Focal Kanta #1 is capable of filling rooms up to 25 square meters. The wide range of finishes for the speaker is noteworthy. There are options in glossy lacquer, natural veneer, and the front panel can even be in yellow or blue. Stands with "foot" supports that can accommodate spikes are available as an option. According to the manufacturer, this speaker provides precise, detailed, and musical sound.
