The SE300 model features an updated user interface in raspberry tones, transforming it into a "true music player" that allows users to deeply immerse themselves in the music listening experience.
The new interface is designed to allow users to quickly navigate through music categories and rediscover songs in their music library. We have also added a convenient album cover search feature to allow users to rediscover the joy of viewing and interacting with music album covers while listening to music. The raspberry theme focuses on edges, simplicity, and key aspects of dark mode. The black-themed color scheme with red accents reduces visual fatigue and has an intuitive interface. In addition, many other improvements have been made to the user-friendliness of the device, including application service, artist view, album sorting, and album cover search functionality.
To enhance the reproduction of analog sounds, Astell&Kern decided to combine the DAC and amplifier sections for the SE300 audio player during the initial design stage.
The Astell&Kern SE300 is equipped with an R-2R DAC instead of the more commonly used Delta-Sigma DAC found in other audio players. The R-2R DAC, also known as the "ladder DAC," as resistors are arranged like a ladder in it, provides natural and dynamic Hi-Fi sound. However, it is extremely technical and complex in execution, as it requires special resistor networks and hard-to-control current regulators.
The player's R-2R DAC uses 48 pairs (23xR and 25x2R) - a total of 96 ultra-precise resistors to create analog signals, allowing for true 24-bit Hi-Fi decoding. The ultra-precise resistor construction is the key to Hi-Fi sound reproduction. To achieve Hi-Fi sound using R-2R DAC, it is essential to obtain precise current values through resistors with the smallest range of errors. To accomplish this task, Astell&Kern additionally checked each specially selected ultra-precise resistor with a 0.01% error range to complete the development of the SE300.
The Astell&Kern SE300 features two amplification modes. Class A amplification, which produces low distortion and natural sound, and Class AB amplification, which delivers dynamic sound with high efficiency. Users can choose between these two amplifier operating modes based on their preferences and the genre of the music being played. The AK File Drop function makes file transfer easier and more convenient. By using AK File Drop, you can freely transfer files wirelessly through the same network via PC, smartphone, or FTP program. Managing music files is now possible using a wireless solution without the need for cables.
