The Neumann KH 120 A nearfield monitor is an excellent professional tool for use in studios of various purposes. It is perfect for musicians (especially keyboardists and DJs) who need compact but powerful personal monitoring systems.
The KH 120 A is the first Neumann studio monitor to be produced after the rebranding and redesign of the Klein + Hummel line. This active monitor is based on the original O 100 studio monitor. The new KH 120 A has been reworked to incorporate the latest acoustic and electronic modeling and measurement technologies. The monitor provides the most accurate sound reproduction and features a mathematically modeled dispersion waveguide, flexible acoustic control, Class A-B amplifiers, and an analog input. It can also be wall-mounted. The manufacturer claims that all these features provide maximum flexibility in diverse acoustic conditions, regardless of the equipment source or physical placement.
The Neumann KH 120 A is a compact, active two-way nearfield studio monitor designed for both professional and home studios, as well as musicians and regular music enthusiasts. The monitor features a waveguide with mathematically modeled dispersion and flexible control tools. One of its main features is the bi-amp circuitry, which separately amplifies the low/mid and high frequencies. The Class A/B amplifiers can deliver a nominal power of 50W each, with a combined peak power of 160W.
The Neumann KH 120 A utilizes a long-excursion 130mm (5.25") woofer and a 25mm (1") tweeter with a titanium dome. There are two front-firing ports and radiator fins on the rear panel. All the main controls are located there as well. The XLR input is hidden in the lower part of the monitor, next to a block of four DIP switches that control the logo illumination and other functions. On the upper part, there is a block of switches called ACOUSTICAL CONTROLS, which handle the amplification and attenuation of the three frequency ranges - low, high, and mid. Each of them has specific applications; for example, the BASS switch is used to compensate for forced low-frequency amplification when the monitor is placed near a wall. Next, there is the OUTPUT LEVEL switch, which adjusts the maximum sound pressure level at a distance of 1 meter, ranging from 94 to 114 dB. Finally, there is the INPUT GAIN knob, which controls the input signal level. The rear panel also features mounting holes for brackets if you want to hang the monitor on a wall or stand.
The Neumann KH 120 A is housed in a compact aluminum cabinet with magnetic shielding. This sturdy construction minimizes resonances, improves heat dissipation, and extends the lifespan. The wide horizontal dispersion provides more freedom, while the narrow vertical dispersion reduces reflections from the mixing console. This is further aided by the solid front panel.
