Pro-Ject The Classic
Pro-Ject The Classic is a vinyl record player designed in a compact, simple, and elegant form factor. The model features a traditional frame construction developed by well-known turntable manufacturers in the 1950s and 60s. It combines an approved belt drive design with a low-noise AC motor and an ultra-precise variable AC frequency generator with a DC drive for maximum speed stability.
Features:
- Classic design with sub-chassis
- Ortofon 2M-Blue cartridge
- Main platter made of aluminum and MDF
- Rotation speed stabilization
- New tonearm with precision Japanese ball bearing
The Pro-Ject The Classic turntable is designed in a vintage style reminiscent of the golden age of this technology. The unit has a frame-like chassis with a suspended sub-chassis (MDF and aluminum plate) that houses the platter and tonearm bearings. The motor is mounted on the main chassis and is mechanically isolated from the rest of the turntable construction with additional dampening. This model includes electronic rotation speed stabilization similar to the SpeedBox module.
Instead of traditional springs, the sub-chassis suspension uses elastic thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) balls - six of these supports are positioned in recesses in the main chassis to provide optimal dampening. The platter in the Pro-Ject The Classic turntable consists of two parts - the main part, machined from aluminum with TPE dampening, and a sub-platter connected to the motor via a belt. The platter bearing in the turntable is made of alloy steel, bronze, and Teflon - the same bearing construction used in the Debut series turntables but with higher precision.
Pro-Ject The Classic features a straight carbon fiber and aluminum tonearm, 9 inches in length, resting on precision Japanese ball bearings. It includes azimuth and VTA adjustments, and a unique feature is the placement of the cartridge cable in the arm's center to reduce stress on the structure. Some variants of the turntable come with a specially made Ortofon 2M Silver cartridge for this model. The headshell's copper coil wire is replaced with silver wire, expanding the frequency range and improving linearity. The turntable is placed on height-adjustable anti-vibration feet. The Classic package includes a dust cover and the high-quality Connect it E cable for connecting to a phono stage.
